Trader Joe's Whole30 must have items. If you are on Whole30 and not wanting to spend a fortune Trader Joe's is a great place to buy the items you need.

I like shopping at Trader Joe’s because it’s an affordable place to get my groceries. Unlike Whole Wallet Foods. Don’t get me wrong I like Whole Foods but you get more for your buck at Trader Joe’s.

Pre-Cut Veggies

Pre-cut veggies are a good item to get at Trader Joe’s. These will save you a lot of time when cooking. When you’re on the Whole30 meal prepping is a necessity. When you have healthy food already prepared it makes sticking to Whole30 so much easier! And having vegetables already cut can save you so much time in the kitchen.

Healthy Fats

Cashew butter from Trader Joe's
Canned Coconut milk from Trader Joe's
ghee from trader joe's

You’ll need to have a plated fat for every meal you eat. A plated fat will help you feel more full for a longer amount of time. So it is important to have one at each meal. Trader Joe’s has a great selection for you to stalk up on healthy fats.

Nuts

You’ll want to stock up on nuts will at Trader Joe’s. It’s an affordable place to get different varieties such as almonds and cashews.

Nut Butters

Trader Joe’s has the best kinds of nut butters. I love the cashew butter, it is so delicious! Of course, I have to be cautious because it can be a food where I can overindulge. The crunchy almond butter is good too.

Guacamole

Premade guacamole makes life so much easier! I can never find a ripe avocado in the store. And waiting until it ripens can be torture:) So buying guacamole is a much easier option.

Olives

Olives are an easy platted fat to add to any of your meals. It can be part of the recipes or you can eat them as a side dish.

Canned Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is good to have on hand to make curries and many other dishes. Also, a staple ingredient for dump ranch! If you don’t like drinking your coffee black coconut milk is a substitution for creamer.

Clarified Butter

If you are not already family with ghee it’s a great substitution for butter. Clarified is made by removing the milk fats. So you’re left with pure butter oil. It is good for cooking with or spreading on your sweet potato.

Pantry Items

everything but the bagel from trader joe's

Keeping your pantry stocked with Whole30 staples will help you stay on track. Youll have the ingredients you need to add flavor to your meals. Items you should always have on hand include a combination of oil and condiments. Having these can help you prepare a variety of meals.

Oils

You will need plenty of oils for all the cooking you are going to be doing. So make sure to stock up on olive oil, coconut oil, and an olive oil nonstick spray. Avoid the coconut spray because it has soy listed in the ingredients.

Coconut Aminos

Coconut aminos are a good substitution for soy sauce. It is a lot cheaper to buy at Trader Joe’s. It’s about half the price there compared to other grocery stores. Coconut aminos have less sodium in it. Also, it has a sweeter taste compared to soy sauce.

Vinegar

Most kinds of vinegar are allowed on Whole30. The only exception are flavored vinegars. Such as malt vinegar and other flavored kinds of vinegar with added sugar.

Salsa

Don’t forget to pick up some salsa at Trader Joe’s. Make sure to check the labels for sneaky ingredients, like sugar.

Seasonings and Spices

Before starting my first round of Whole30 I hardly used the spices I had. But now I have learned how they can help flavor food. I make sure to keep my pantry stocked with a variety of spice. Once spice that you’ll have to get from Trader Joe’s is Everything but the Bagel.

Frozen Items

Frozen Veggies

I like stocking up on frozen vegetables when I’m at Trader Joe’s. Frozen vegetables are usually frozen as soon as they are picked. So they can be as nutritious as fresh vegetables. It’s a good option to have on hand. So you can always guarantee to have enough vegetables at every meal.

Frozen Seafood

Trader Joe’s has a good variety of frozen fish and shrimp. It is also a more affordable option to buy seafood from their frozen aisle.

Frozen Burgers

It’s a good idea to stock up on some frozen burgers from Trader Joe’s. They make for a quick meal. The Chile Lime Chicken burgers are delicious. When your craving a fast-food hamburger try one of these chicken burgers instead.

Proteins

You should have a palm-sized portion of protein with each meal. The program suggests that you eat organic protein when possible. Buying organic meats can drive the price of your grocery bill up. But Trader Joe’s does have some affordable options.

Read Ingredients

An important Whole30 mistake to avoid is not reading the ingredients. Always make sure to read the ingredients. It is important to know what is in your food. Because non-compliant ingredients are lurking everywhere!

You may not think you need to check every label. But it’s a good idea to do so. I have ended many rounds because I didn’t check what was in an item.

Check for off-limit additives in the ingredients

  • Carrageenan
  • Corn Starch
  • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
  • Soy Lecithin
  • Sulfites

Whole30 Shopping at Trader Joe’s

While on Whole30 it can seem like your grocery bill is more expensive. But if you shop at Trader Joe’s you will find that it can be less of a hit to your wallet than other grocery stores.
